About Us
The coffee crisis gave the communities of Chichupac County the opportunity to convert their coffee production into a modernized roasted product. This year their coffee received the Cup of Excellence award. More than 13 families of this county initiated the coffee production in 1976, which was always interrupted by the civil war. Nevertheless, after finding credit and support of the Family Integration Center (CIF in Spanish), they were able to open the beneficio Flor del Cafe, recalls Alberto Chen, one of the members of Chichupac. The value added would come in afterwards. The women of the communities helped to roast and package the coffee and sell it in the internal market. This helped them get over the crisis of coffee prices, said Agustina Valey, leader of the community. The efforts and quality of the coffee granted them the award of Cup of Excellence, held in Anacafe, in the 2005-2006 edition, where their coffee lot obtained position number 16. They have also received the opportunity to auction their coffee by the Internet, commented Luis Garcia, who works in the Investigation and Projects for Development and Peace Center.
